I knew nothing of Maugham, other than his prolific output. I was going to read The Razor's Edge. Perhaps that was a bit autobiographical. Speaking of autobiographical, I'm still bogged down with the addict tennis star DFW and his IJ.
Only 41 Indie bookstores in all of the USA last year. One in New London, CT. Here's another in NY:

OMG. I recognize most of the books you listed. I may not read much. I may not be the brightest literary bulb in the box. But boy am I getting to be quite the expert on recommendations and lists.

I just found the Maus sequel (Maus II) and devoured that Pulitzer winner. Highly recommended. My first comic book!
While I'm getting my literary butt kicked by reading "IJ", I'm also listening to "The Worst Hard Time." Many OK settlers are Catherine the Great's Volga Germans. They fled Russia after her successor took away all their rights (ie, prohibiting conscription, prohibiting messing with or taxing their beer-making, etc.). I wonder if these are the same Germans that influenced Banda music in the 1880s?
OMG, I'm on page 21 of Infinite Jest. What have I gotten into?
I will have to check them out! They are definitely for adults. When Dan watches South Park or Family Guy, he howls in laughter. I guess it is the same thing - althoug, just a tad edgier...
Nice to find a book lover and book store lover in Guadalajara -- I'm sure there are many many.
Just moved here a couple of months ago.
Sometimes. Related note: I'm always looking at the various recommendations.
Winebraggle, lithontripton, fripperies, hotchpots, opprobrium, cremasters, tropological, barytoning, eryniium, atranium, dogsleep, infoliature, mystagogues!

I just finished Rabelais, all 841 pages of the LeClerq translation. Hooray!!!

What a long, strange trip it's been...
Along the same time (ie, 1949-1969), I just took an hour and read 84, Charing Cross Road. Super-charming and an excellent antidote to my last effort, Fight Club.
Thanks! I also posted it on the Audiobooks Group.
I've read neither! I've only read Hard Times, Great Expectations and Tale of Two Cities (thought to be one of his worst, but I liked it the overt symbolism). I think of the two, Bleak House is supposed to be the better.
...and Mel Brook's son gets a full star more!!!
I haven't added a venue picture since before February. If the log is showing that I did, they've effed up the log.
