[edit] General Installation Instructions for all OPAC users

Don't forget that you can join the LTFL Google group to ask and read questions (and answers!) about using LTFL, along with getting updates and being asked your opinion on upcoming enhancements.

  1. Set up an account with LTFL
    • Currently you have to do this by emailing sonya@librarything.com
  2. Sign into your account
  3. Fill in the account info (on the "Your Account" page)
    • Open the edit screen by clicking the (edit site info) link at the bottom right side of the page
    • This includes library name, mailing address, contact person, catalog homepage, and name of your OPAC - nothing hard
  4. Export file
  5. Upload file
    • Click on the "Upload ISBNs" tab at the top of your account page
    • Choose a file format
    • Choose an action
    • Enter your email to get a note telling you that the indexing is done (it should be processed within a day or two)
    • Click on the "Get File" button to upload your file from your computer
    • Click the "Browse" button to find the file
    • Click "Begin File Upload" to ... begin the file upload
  6. Put the code in your OPAC
    • Click on the "Get HTML" tab at the top of your account page
    • Again, an OPAC-specific task - check the OPAC-specific links in the Export File section
    • Make sure to cut and paste the javascript, and the three div tags
      • The javascript should go below where you choose to place the div tags
    • Save the template page in your OPAC
  7. Control how the enhancements look
    • Click on the "Configure" tab at the top of your account page
    • If you have one of the OPACs listed, and would like to prepopulate the CSS fields, click on the appropriate link
      • You can continue to edit the CSS after clicking the link - it's a great starting point
      • If you click the link again, your custom changes will revert to the factory settings, and will not be saved - beware
  8. Global Editing section
  9. Happy dance
    • This is a personal thing, that we cannot tell you how to do. It must come from within, spontaneously. Read more at the Happy Dance FAQ.

Read more about installing LTFL in our technical Technical FAQ: http://www.librarything.com/forlibraries/about/

  • Always back up any files you are going to modify.
  • We put these directions up to help people, not to short-circuit contact; if you want help on these or anything else, please email us at casey@librarything.com or sonya@librarything.com.

[edit] Installation of the reviews enhancement

We could use more formal notation for the installation, for various OPACs. Please help fill this information in to help fellow librarians.

1) Somewhere on the summary page, you need to include the main LTFL javascript (just once), with "yourlibrary'snumber" replaced with the ID number found in your account:

<script src="http://www.librarything.com/forlibraries/widget.js?id=yourlibrarysnumber" type="text/javascript"></script>

2) for each result on the summary page, you want the following <div> element where the link to the reviews to appear:

<div class="ltfl ltfl_reviews"></div>

3) on the full bib page, we want the same <div> element to appear where the reviews link should go.

(2) and (3) are semi-optional. The javascript will try and dynamically create the <div> elements if they are not there, but it has to guess where to put the link, and that might not be where you want it to be.

4) at the configure tab (www.librarything.com/forlibraries to sign in) you can make changes to the widget, and on the moderation tab, you'll be able to see the glorious reviews as the roll in.
